Call For Applicants One Day Post GSHSR International Workshop On Participatory Action Research In People Centred Health Systems, Fountains Hotel, Cape Town, 4 October 2014

The one day post symposium workshop will be held to deepen the discussion on the use of participatory action research in health policy and people centred health systems, including in acting on the social determinants of health. It will be open to delegates from all regions globally to foster cross regional exchange and to include people from the pra4equity network in east and southern Africa. The workshop aims to exchange information, experience and build learning on and capacities in PAR, and specifically on • The background to and motivations for the emergence and use of PAR in health policy and health systems across different regions • The key features of PAR and their implications for research in health and health systems • Experiences of applying the processes and methods of PAR in people-.centred health systems, • Ethical Issues in taking forward work on PAR, and • Learning networks and communities of practice in building capacities for, exchange on, documenting and reporting PAR It will draw on and distribute the Reader on Participatory Action Research in Health system developed by EQUINET with the Alliance for Health Policy and Systems Research and IDRC Canada. The workshop is targeted at researchers, health workers, academics, people working in state, civil society and non-state organisations, community leaders and workers and others in all regions who have been using or seek to use PAR in improving health and health systems. There are limited places in the workshop. We invite interested organisations and individuals from all regions globally to submit an application to participate and to provide the full information shown below. The workshop will be held at Fountains Hotel next to the Cape Town International Convention Centre where the GSHSR is being held. (Delegates applying for the workshop do not need to have attended the GSHSR). The registration fee for the workshop of SAR450 (about US$45) covers teas, lunches and materials. EQUINET will sponsor a limited number of accepted delegates for the registration fee based on need. It is assumed that delegates from outside Cape Town will have already arranged their accommodation and travel for the GSHSR. Information requested from applications: Interested applicants should submit  Full name, institution, position in institution and contact address, and applicant email address, phone number and skype address if available  An ‘expression of interest’ of less than one page that outlines o If delegates have implemented participatory action research (PAR), the PAR that they and their institution are doing that relates to health, action on social determinants of health and strengthening people centred health systems, what their own role in this work is, the methods and how it has connected with communities, what the product was and what changes it aimed at producing and has produced. o If delegates have not yet carried out PAR but would want to attend, the area of research they are working in, what their interest is in PAR and the possibilities they have for using PAR  a brief CV  a paragraph of information on the institution that they work in, and  information on whether they are able to meet the registration fee or request EQUINET sponsorship. Applicants should submit this information with PAR WORKSHOP in the subject line by 30 June 2014 to admin@equinetafrica.org and copy it to rene@tarsc.org and maot99@yahoo.es. Accepted delegates will be notified by 4 July on the outcome of their submission.
