SOCIAL SCIENTIST / DEMOGRAPHER / EPIDEMIOLOGIST:
KARONGA PREVENTION STUDY
Research Fellow or Lecturer
A social scientist/demographer/epidemiologist is sought to play an important role in a large Wellcome Trust-supported research programme based in northern Malawi. The programme includes demographic surveillance in a population of 32,000, and an HIV and sexual behaviour survey. The post-holder will lead the sexual behaviour survey, and develop and lead new studies within the survey area on sexual behaviour in HIV discordant and concordant couples, and in individuals on antiretroviral treatment, including both quantitative and qualitative methods. Supervision of fieldwork is an important element of the post. The ideal candidate could come from a social science or demography/epidemiology background, with skills in the complementary discipline, and would have experience of work on sexual behaviour. This represents an unusual opportunity for involvement in a major long term programme.
The appointment will be for 12 months, with possibility of extension. Starting salary will be in the range of US$30,227 to US$42,791 per annum, depending upon qualifications and experience. A displacement allowance will be applicable.
