Vacancy: Regional Campaign/Advocacy Manager Purpose of Position: To manage the development and implementation of Soul City’s 10 -country Southern Africa regional HIV/AIDS prevention campaign (One love Campaign). In addition the job involves supporting the implementation of advocacy campaigns in 4 Southern African countries. The One Love campaign rolls out across 10 southern African countries from October 2008 – October 2009. The Campaign and Advocacy Manager will report to the Senior Executive: Regional Programme. He/she will also work closely with the One love Campaign Steering Committee and Advocacy Officers in participating Southern African countries. Key responsibilities The Campaign and Advocacy Manager must: 1. Coordinate all activities for the regional One Love campaign and ensure that all relevant partners and stakeholders are informed and updated on progress. 2. Provide support, training, coaching and mentoring to country-level Advocacy Offices to implement local advocacy campaigns. 3. Coordinate One Love Campaign steering committee meetings and ensure that accurate minutes, relevant materials and documents are circulated to all campaign stakeholders. 4. Manage the development of the regional One Love Campaign strategy and elements (for example regional launch, posters; PSA’s, and media advocacy) and ensure that deadlines are timeously met. 5. Oversee the development of the One Love Campaign communication materials including campaign concept notes, leaflets, press releases, reports, newsletters and other communication activities as determined by the One Love Steering Committee. 6. Coordinate timelines and ensure that relevant stakeholders are aware of local country MCP campaign plans and activities and regional synergies. 7. Co-ordinate our work with regional partners (SADC/ IOM, UNAIDS, Safaids) and other alliances and ensure timelines and strategies for this process are developed, implemented and monitored. 8. Support country partners to develop strategic relationships with National AIDS Councils to facilitate their buy-in and support for the regional and in-country One Love Campaigns. Knowledge, skills and abilities 1. Post-graduate tertiary qualification in health or development related field. 2. At least five years’ relevant work experience campaigning and advocacy work (research, campaign development and implementation, alliance building, partnership management etc.). 3. Experience of working with national and regional NGOs on health and development advocacy issues and campaigns. 4. Strong people skills with ability to motivate, support and supervise professional staff. 5. Sound knowledge of HIV and AIDS related to some of Soul City’s core areas of work. 6. Ability to coordinate a range of different people and activities and the ability to work to deadline. 7. Good writing skills and experience in writing reports, and monitoring programme budgets. 8. A working knowledge of southern African languages to assist with translations is an advantage. 9. Willingness to travel to countries where we have programmes and elsewhere. 10.
