The Peoples Health Movement (PHM) is a large global civil society network of health activists supportive of the WHO policy of Health for All and organised to combat the economic and political causes of deepening inequalities in health worldwide and revitalise the implementation of WHO’s strategy of Primary Health Care.
PHM in South Africa (PHM-SA) is currently most active in Cape Town, but we aim to extend our activities throughout South Africa. We are looking for a dynamic and well-organized person to co-ordinate the PHM-SA activities in consultation with the Cape Town-based Steering Committee.
Your duties will include:
* Organising meetings and taking minutes;
* Assisting in developing PHM campaigns (e.g. the Right to Health campaign) and securing involvement of other NGO’s and civil society organisations.
* Networking and expanding the PHM membership in South Africa;
* Communication (managing email list; drafting correspondence; dissemination of information; maintaining the PHM website);
* Advocacy;
* Fundraising and reporting to donors.
Qualities:
* Must be able to work on your own as well as with a team;
* Must recognise health as a fundamental human right and be supportive of the PHM values and principles as reflected in the People’s Charter for Health (available on www.phmovement.org).
The successful applicant will have a good opportunity to develop in this position.
PHM is offering between R3000 to R 4000 per month part time. The final salary and hours will be dependent on level of skill – it is anticipated that the hours worked will be between 30 to 50% of a full time position.
