INTRODUCTION The Southern Africa Trust, in partnership with the Mail & Guardian newspaper, announces the establishment of the DRIVERS OF CHANGE award. The DRIVERS OF CHANGE award has been established to hold up living examples of innovative practices, inclusive attitudes, and effective processes that build social trust and create the best conditions to make a real and lasting difference in the lives of people living in poverty. It will be awarded in three categories (i.e. civil society organisations, government, and business) to recognise individuals or organisations from across the southern Africa region that are making a real impact, especially in developing effective public policies and strategies, to overcome poverty. CRITERIA Recipients of the award in each of the three categories will demonstrate: * Innovation in the strategies used to develop better public policies; * Policy work with a focus on making a real difference to the material conditions of people living in poverty; * Attentiveness to, and significance for, overcoming poverty and inequality throughout the southern Africa region; and * Inclusion of diverse voices, including voices of the poor. Nominations will be accepted from individuals or from organisations. Nominees should be individuals in government or agencies of government, individuals in business or business organisations, individuals active in civil society organisations, or governmental and non-governmental organisations. We invite you to nominate a recipient of the DRIVERS OF CHANGE award. The DRIVERS OF CHANGE award is part of the Mail & Guardian's annual Investing in the Future awards. The award will be presented at a grand prix awards event in Johannesburg on 27 October 2006.
