HIV Research Trust scholarship
A new scholarship programme is being run by the International AIDS Society on
behalf of the HIV Research Trust.
The Scholarship scheme aims to support a broad mix of disciplines while enabling
physicians, nurses, scientists, and other health care professionals in resource
poor settings to acquire skills relevant to treatment-related research; in order
to develop their careers and increase the capacity of their units to carry
out research related to treatment and prevention.
This year, the Trustees have chosen the following countries within Sub-Saharan
Africa:
Angola, Benin, Botswana, Burkina Faso, Burundi, Cameroon, Central African
Republic, Chad, Comoros, Congo, Congo DR, Cote d'Ivoire, Djibouti, Eritrea,
Ethiopia, Gabon, Gambia, Ghana, Guinea, Guinea-Bissau, Kenya, Lesotho, Liberia,
Madagascar, Malawi, Mali, Mauritania, Mauritius, Mozambique, Namibia, Niger,
Nigeria, Rwanda, Senegal, Sierra Leone, Somalia, South Africa, Swaziland,
United Republic of Tanzania, Togo, Uganda, Zambia, Zimbabwe.
The scheme may be extended to other continents at a later stage.
The role of the IAS is to assist the HIV Research Trust to efficiently administer
the research Scholarship by means of advertising in accordance with the stipulated
eligibility criteria; and to facilitate the application and selection procedures
by short listing a number of candidates from various disciplines from whom the
trustees will choose the most appropriate candidates and to whom they will award
the Scholarships.
