The Rockefeller Foundation is currently seeking an Associate Director
for its office in Nairobi who will have overall responsibility for
providing thematic leadership for grant activities in the AIDS area
of work in the development of programs related to the Health Equity
(HE) theme and the Africa Regional Program (ARP) in Eastern and
Southern Africa.

RESPONSIBILITIES:
* Provide programmatic leadership for all grant activities in the
AIDS area of work
* Oversee and further develop the AIDS Care Program and lead the
development of a new program on prevention
* As an active member of the team, contribute to the strategic
thinking and program development of the HE theme and the ARP
* Implement the assigned program's strategy in a high quality,
efficient manner, and work with program staff as well as grantees to
facilitate the flow of information necessary for grants
administration
* Manage and motivate assigned staff through effective leadership,
mentoring, communication, coaching, development, facilitation,
evaluation and rewards
* Attend to operational, administrative and personnel functions as
specified by the regional representative (may have supervisory
responsibility for support staff)
* Ensure that all grants and operations are in compliance with
relevant laws and are consistent with Foundation policies and
procedures
QUALIFICATIONS:
* Doctoral (MD or Ph.D.) in a public health-related field
* Scientific research experience in health, preferably related to
AIDS
* Minimum of seven years of professional experience, with a working
knowledge of non-profit management as well as the region to which the
Associate Director is assigned
* Proven ability to think strategically, analyze critically, and to
translate ideas and insights into action through coherent and viable
programs
* Sound judgment, particularly for assessing projects as well as the
leadership skills of potential grantees and consultants
* Demonstrated people management skills, including the ability to
manage complex relationships with staff, grantees, consultants and
other Foundation partners
* Administrative skills, in particular an appreciation for the
importance of strong fiscal management
* Good presentation and communication skills - the ability to listen
and learn from diverse constituencies
* Excellent oral and written English; good knowledge of Swahili and
French a plus
* Organizational skills, and the ability to manage multiple tasks
simultaneously
