IDRC is recruiting a Senior Program Specialist for our Social and Economic Equity Program Area, to work with IDRC's new Governance, Equity and Health program initiative (GEH - 70%) and with the Micro Impacts of Macro and Adjustment Policies program initiative (MIMAP - 30%). We are looking for a public health specialist with experience in health administration and/or health economics and/or health policy and systems research.The position is described at http://www.idrc.ca/careers/PR058.htm. GEH supports the integration of political, social, economic, and policy analysis into research on public health and health care systems and policies, in order to (1) provide solid grounds for making informed and needs-based decisions on the equitable financing and functioning of health systems; and (2) deepen democracy and strengthen health and social equity by promoting effective citizen engagement, particularly among marginalized and underserved populations, in the development of health policy and the delivery of public services for health. The draft text on which the ads will be based: Senior Program Specialist, Governance, Equity and Health Ottawa The Senior Program Specialist will work as part of a multidiscplinary team responsible for the management of the Centre's Governance, Equity and Health Program Initiative. S/he will also be expected to contribute to IDRC programming in the field of poverty and economic policy. This position demands a strong background in issues of public health in developing countries, with an emphasis on health economics, health administration or health policy and systems > research. The successful candidate will have: - a PhD or equivalent in a relevant discipline - a minimum of eight years experience, with a background in research and research management - demonstrated interest in issues of health policy. Knowledge of other areas of economic and social policy is an asset, as is familiarity with gender analysis - working experience in a developing country - fluency in English and French - an ability to work as a member of a multi-disciplinary team and to communicate effectively in a variety of cultural settings.
