Join ProNutrition-HIV - new electronic forum
Reposted from: 'HIF-net at WHO', Join ProNutrition-HIV - new electronic forum -------------------------------------------- Another new discussion group to be launched in January. ProNut-HIV, a new electronic forum, aims to share up-to-date information, knowledge and experiences on nutrition and HIV/AIDS. Our first discussion group deals with how to enhance positive living through proper nutrition care and support by promoting a constructive dialogue between PLWHA, front line workers, researchers, HIV/AIDS specialists and policy makers. Proper nutritional care and support of people living with HIV/AIDS (PLWHA) helps to strengthen the immune function, reduce the severity of opportunistic infections, alleviate HIV/AIDS-related symptoms, prevent the negative effects of medication and food interactions on the nutritional status of PLWHA, as well as contributes to the efficacy of and adherence to medications. Recognizing that, international and national guidelines on nutrition care and support of PLWHA have been developed and are being used in Africa. Given the increased number of PLWHA in Africa, including infected and affected mothers and children, this forum aims to share up-to-date information, knowledge and experiences on nutrition care and support of PLWHA. The forum intends to focus primarily on the nutrition care and support of mothers and children, and later on the focus may shift to the nutrition care and support of other groups such as adults (men and women) and elderly. We invite PLWHA, front line workers, researchers and program planners in HIV/AIDS and policy makers to actively participate and contribute to the dialogue. To maintain a high-quality and lively interaction, expert moderators in HIV/AIDS and Nutrition will facilitate the discussion. As collaborating partners, SATELLIFE and Academy for Educational Development (AED) administer and support ProNut-HIV.
