The Center for Disease Control in Pretoria is seeking the services of a PMTCT Advisor. BASIC FUNCTION OF POSITION Incumbent will be working with the Global AIDS Program, US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), South Africa. Incumbent will provide technical assistance to CDC and the HIV/AIDS, STD and TB Directorate within the National Department of Health (NDOH) in the development, implementation and evaluation of PMTCT communication strategies, integration of HIV counseling activities and the monitoring and evaluation of PMTCT programs at the national and provincial levels. The incumbent will work in close collaboration with the Deputy Director of Research, HIV/AIDS, STD and TB Directorate, and the Chief Directorate of MCWH and Nutrition. QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED NOTE: All applicants are instructed to address each selection criterion detailed below with specific and comprehensive information supporting each criteria. 1. A graduate degree in one of the following disciplines: Public Health, Health policy, Health Management, Behavioral or Social Sciences required. 2. Five years experience in the overall management of HIV/AIDS/TB/STI and/or related programs at the local, provincial, national or international level required. 3. Level IV English –Fluent reading, writing, and speaking and knowledge of a native South African language required. 4. Knowledge and understanding of the principles of program management, coordination and collaboration, knowledge of HIV/AIDS/STI/TB and prevention activities, knowledge of PMTCT and infant feeding required. Must be conversant in the latest developments regarding PMTCT. 5. Must be able to provide technical expertise in the management of an expanding and changing health program in politically sensitive environment. Will be expected to analyze and translate information and data into realistic policies and user-friendly guidelines for service providers and managers. Must be able to write clear and concise reports and develop effective working relationships with colleagues in the NDOH, international health organizations, provincial health departments and NGOS. 6. Level II typing ability (30 W.P.M). Must be computer literate in Microsoft word, e-mail and excel.
