US IN TALKS ON ANTHRAX PATENT MEDICINES
Consumer rights groups said the anthrax scare should encourage the US government to rethink its controversial policy towards patent protection in developing countries, especially for AIDS medicines. Experts said that in order to buy generic copies of Cipro, the US would have to issue a compulsory license for the drug, which is permitted under international trade rules in the case of a medical emergency.
